Pet Urine Odor
I’m changing my carpet to laminate flooring. How do I kill the pet odor in the underlying wood?
So, apparently pet odors (from urine) seep into the wood underneath your carpet. I’m putting down Laminate flooring in a couple weeks, but my Mom told me that the smell would still seep up through. (The smell is the whole reason I’m switching to laminate.) So, what do I do to kill the odor? Does anyone know of a product or procedure to “sanitize” the wood, for lack of better word. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Your Mom is right. The odor will react to changing humidity and will reoccur. The smell is nasty and almost mutant. The best thing to do is to replace any wood flooring or wood subflooring, and maybe wallboard if close enough. Cats usually pee in the same areas so you might only have to replace a small space, look for staining. Replacing affected wood is a heck of a lot cheaper than ripping up your laminate later.
